Chaos and Comedy…The Show

What’s The Show?

Just two best friends, making a late night show with comedy, sketches, and original music, joined by all of their favorite comedians, actors, artists, and friends! What’s The Show? Nobody knows. Come find out, come giggle, and definitely DO NOT ask about the pie.

Meet the Team

Matt Leazer is an actor, writer, and comedian. A graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, where he trained in the Meisner technique for two years. Soon after he began performing in one of New York’s longest running sketch shows, Fresh Out the Box, which he now helps produce monthly shows of, at The Player’s Theatre. He also founded the production company, The Reading Playhouse, alongside Alessia Falvo, which produced multiple plays, including Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Waiting for Godot, and The House of Bernarda Alba. Most notably the large-scale production of Waiting for Lefty at the Great Gatsby Space under the Central Park Hotel. He has also appeared in an adaptation of LEAR, directed by Timothy Stickney, ss well as a musical demonstration, Stoop Songs, curated and directed by Sandy Faison and Ben Hartley. When he is not performing he is writing poems in the park, providing impromptu harmonica concerts, or wandering the halls of the Met. Matt is extremely excited to bring The Show to 59E59, Edinburgh Fringe, and beyond. With the ultimate goal of creating opportunities for as many young artists to create, build, and spread joy.

The Show Goes to Edinburgh Fringe Festival

We are Matt Leazer and MJ Hughes. Together we created The Show with Matt Leazer and MJ Hughes. Like the title? We do too.

It is a comedic variety show that features original music, sketches, and characters from some of New York's best and brightest artists.

What began as a dream to create a stage for ourselves and our friends has turned into an opportunity of a lifetime. After our first show, we realized we had something truly special… maybe even special enough for Scotland!

That’s when we decided we wanted to go to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

AND GOOD NEWS! WE GOT IN! We are honored and thrilled to announce we are set to play in the Forest Theatre at Greenside @ George St., which is a whopping 90-seat theatre. In our three week run, no two shows will be the same. Every evening will be a unique experience, featuring local artists, comedians, and musicians.

For three weeks in August, Edinburgh welcomes an explosion of creative energy from around the globe. Artists and performers take to hundreds of stages all over the city, presenting shows for every taste.

In 2024 alone, over 2.4 million tickets were sold to shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival!

Alan Rickman, Dame Judy Dench, Robin Williams, John Cleese, and so many other greats got their start at The Fringe.

While we are very excited for this opportunity, we need funding to help make it happen.

Funds for this epic journey will go towards travel, room and board, advertising, and venue costs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. There's a lot of moving parts and we have a lot of parts that we need to move.

This is the ultimate opportunity for Matt and MJ to get their show in front of casting directors, producers, writers, and industry professionals. Not only will they gain incredible experience and exposure as performers, but this could lead to many opportunities upon their return to New York, including taking The Show to even bigger stages, with even more opportunities to collaborate with their fellow artists.

Getting to this point in our journey would not have been possible without the love and support of our many directors, teachers, mentors, friends, and family. Once more, we are calling on you to believe in us, our vision, and our show.

Thank you <3
